MateriNex strengthens the Flemish innovation ecosystem for sustainable materials by connecting industry, academia, research organisations and other stakeholders to accelerate collaborative research and innovation.
Commissioned by VLAIO and the Flemish Government’s Department of Economy, Science and Innovation, MateriNex facilitates and manages sustainable materials research in Flanders. By fostering strategic partnerships and enabling access to funding through the Fund for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (FIO) for cSBO, ICON and cO&O research projects, MateriNex creates the conditions for new research collaborations and innovation projects to emerge.
Working closely with universities, research organisations, collective centres, spearhead clusters and industry partners, MateriNex promotes knowledge exchange, identifies emerging innovation opportunities and helps build a stronger, more connected innovation ecosystem.
MateriNex focuses on three strategic innovation domains:
- Materials for Battery Technology – mobility and energy storage
- Materials for Building and Construction – low-carbon construction and resource efficiency
- Strategic and Critical Raw Materials – resilient, sustainable and circular value chains
